Dr Oonagh Duffy Glasgow Psychologist1

Dr Oonagh Duffy

Originally from Ireland I came to Scotland and completed my Degree in Psychology and my PhD in Epidemiology and Health Psychology at the University of Aberdeen. I presented various aspects of my doctorate at national and international conferences, and through peer reviewed journals. My PhD investigated the prevalence of menopausal symptoms in North East Scotland and explored vulnerability and resilience at menopause. I then moved to Glasgow and completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Glasgow. I gained experience throughout my doctorate working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Adult Mental Health Services, Learning Disabilities and Clinical Health. Post qualification I spent 6 years in the NHS working in Maternity Services, Neonatal Intensive Care, Paediatric Clinical Psychology and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. I developed and began my independent practice in 2018 and split my time between this practice and the NHS. Since 2021, my working days have been focussed on this service, as well as providing coaching, teaching and training as an Associate to the Intensive Care Society Staff Wellbeing programme.

I am trained in a number of therapeutic modalities. This means that I will create a treatment plan for you that may combine a number of therapeutic approaches tailored to your specific needs, allowing you to get the help you need quicker. My training and experience allows me to tailor the evidence base to your needs rather than only giving you one specific type of therapy which may not be helpful for you. I tend to offer a short number of sessions depending on your needs, typically 6-8 although this can be less or more if needed. We will establish therapy goals and I will help you learn the skills you need to reach your goals. In this way I aim to teach you to be your own therapist, using skills long beyond our time working together. You can always arrange a top up refresher session in the future if needed. More information about what is likely to happen in an assessment appointment with me can be found in this video.

I am approachable, supportive and compassionate. I will provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to explore your difficulties.

I am registered with the Health Care Professionals Council as a Practising Psychologist.
